Purpose
Skip blocks, screen out or complete using explicit rules.
When to use it
When participants should not all follow the same sequence.
Before you start
- Source and destination blocks created
- Defined conditions for each group
Example
People who never used the service skip the frequency question.
Step by step
- Select source. In the builder, select Have you used the service? and open Logic in its properties. Also create the frequency question and a later destination block. Check the sequence before configuring the jump. Previous-use question.
- Define condition. In the rule form, choose the answer-equals-Never condition. For multi-select, equals compares the exact set; contains checks for any listed option. Review the selected answer before setting the action. Answer equals Never.
- Choose action. Choose the action that goes to the block after frequency and click Add rule. Check the rule in the list and its priority: the first match applies. Use screen-out or completion only when that is the intended outcome. Destination after frequency.
- Test both paths. In the builder, click Study preview and answer Never: the frequency question should be skipped. Click Restart same participant and choose an answer that does not match: the question should appear. This preview applies rules and screening without recording real responses. Figma tasks, websites and interviews use simulated answers in this mode · Preview in new tab checks blocks but does not apply study skip rules.
Validate before collecting responses
In the builder, Study preview applies draft groups, rules and screening without creating sessions or taking quota slots. For Figma tasks, websites and interviews, it shows Simulated answer to test logic: the author supplies the outcome; this does not demonstrate a real interaction.
Preview in new tab lets you check each block on desktop or mobile, including interactive Figma navigation and a simulated interview conversation. This block preview does not apply study skip rules.
To validate real websites, recording, voice and AI follow-up, publish and use Open link in new tab in Share. The published link opens a real participation at /r/[token]: it may create responses and consume quota. Keep this participation separate when analyzing collection.

Cautions and limitations
- The first matching rule wins; order rules from most specific to broadest.
- For multi-select, equals compares the entire set; contains accepts any listed option.
