Why publishing freezes a version and what changes when republishing.

Purpose

Keep drafts separate from the questions each participant actually answered.

When to use it

For the first collection and whenever blocks, logic or screens change.

Before you start

Example

Publish v2 after revising the task while preserving v1 responses.

Step by step

  1. Review the draft. Open the study in the builder and click Study preview. Follow the main path; use Restart same participant and change your answer to check another path. This preview applies rules and screening but simulates Figma tasks, websites and interviews. Fix incomplete questions and incorrect destinations. To test Figma navigation, select the block and open Preview in new tab · Validate real recording, websites and voice through the published link.
  1. Publish. Open Share. In Public link, click Publish study; if a version already exists, click Publish v2 or the next number shown. Wait for confirmation and check the version in the latest-publication line. Content is frozen in this version.
  1. Verify the link. In Share, click Open link in new tab beside the public link. Complete the published study and check the revised text. This is a real participation: it may appear in Results and consume quota. The published link opens a real participation · Preview does not record responses.
  1. Identify the edition. Return to the study, open Results and select v2 in Version. In People, find the validation participation by date. Check its version before comparing with v1; earlier sessions retain the version on which they started. v1 and v2 retain their own responses.

Validate before collecting responses

In the builder, Study preview applies draft groups, rules and screening without creating sessions or taking quota slots. For Figma tasks, websites and interviews, it shows Simulated answer to test logic: the author supplies the outcome; this does not demonstrate a real interaction.

Preview in new tab lets you check each block on desktop or mobile, including interactive Figma navigation and a simulated interview conversation. This block preview does not apply study skip rules.

To validate real websites, recording, voice and AI follow-up, publish and use Open link in new tab in Share. The published link opens a real participation at /r/[token]: it may create responses and consume quota. Keep this participation separate when analyzing collection.

How to read the result

  • New sessions use the published version
  • Version filters let you analyze each edition

Cautions and limitations

  • Editing the draft does not alter a published version.
  • Sessions started before republishing stay on the earlier version.
